A single-use download link is created as soon as the upload finishes. It stays valid for 72 hours, or until the file has been downloaded once.

A sign-up form marked as not needed, and a message carrying a download link from one person to another
No account

No account. No phone number.

There is nothing to register and nothing to sign in to, for you or for the person receiving the file. They only need the link.

How it works

Three steps, with nothing to sign up for

Straight from your browser, on a PC or a phone.

A folder with files and a pointer choosing one
1

Choose a file

Drop it on this page, or pick it from your PC or phone. Add a message if you like.

A file with a lock, turning into scrambled data
2

It is encrypted in your browser

The file, its name and your message are encrypted before the upload begins.

A download link with a copy button, sent on its way
3

Send the one-time link

Copy the link and send it any way you like. It works for one download, within 72 hours.

A file on a laptop is locked before the upload, and the site holds only scrambled data
Security

Encrypted before it leaves your PC

Your browser creates a key and encrypts the file, its name and your message before the upload begins. What reaches this site is already encrypted.

A download link split in two: the first part is sent to the site, the key after the # stays in the browser
The key

The key stays in the link

Browsers do not send the part of a link after the # to any server. That is where the key is kept, so this site does not receive it.

The first part of the link tells the site which file to fetch. The rest opens the file, on the recipient’s device only.

A one-time link, valid for up to 72 hours; after one download the stored file is deleted
Single use

One download, then it is gone

Each link works for one download, for up to 72 hours. Once the file has been downloaded, it is deleted and the link stops working.

The File Sender Windows application sending a large folder and a video directly from one PC to another
Windows application

For larger files, and for sending regularly

Files larger than 2 GB, whole folders and regular sending. The application sends directly from your PC to the recipient’s, with nothing stored in between.

In a browser, the file needs to be decrypted fully in memory upon receipt, which sets a practical maximum of around 2 GB on most PCs. The Windows application works outside the browser and has no such limitation.

Windows 10 and 11  ·  no account required  ·  free for personal use

Organizational use (business, government and non-profit) starts at $39.99 per seat, with an unlimited two-week trial.

Questions

Common questions

Is there a limit on file size?
In a browser, the file needs to be decrypted fully in memory upon receipt, which sets a practical maximum of around 2 GB on most PCs. That is a limitation of the browser rather than of this site. The Windows application has no such limitation.
How long does a download link stay valid?
Seventy-two hours, or until the file has been downloaded once, whichever comes first. After that the stored file is deleted and the link stops working.
Does the recipient need anything?
Only the link. There is nothing for the recipient to install and no account to create.
Can this site read the files it carries?
No. The file, its name and any accompanying message are encrypted before the upload begins, and the key that would decrypt them is not sent to this site.
Is an account required?
No. Neither the browser version nor the Windows application asks for registration, a phone number or a sign-in. Your PC and the recipient’s are already able to exchange a file; the service only arranges it.
